Peace Blog

For the last four weeks of term three we were learning about how we can be champions of peace.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of the peace signs are the two fingers in a shape of a v and the dove with the olive branch. For the dove and olive branch it means when the dove flew back to Noah ark with a olive branch.

With these symbols in mind I created a peace artwork. My peace artwork represents peace because the peace symbols with wings flies up and spreads peace to everyone.

We also learnt about some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Amy Du Plessis I choose her because she pushes through with her rugby.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helped me understand more about peace and how to show it everyday. I learnt that’s there more to peace than just being nice and I plan to be a champion of peace by spreading peace to others.

Mad Math

Hello

This week we were doing geometry

we had to make a pattern with 6 shapes and 6 colours we had to make it so it looked like a floor pattern but with lots of colours for the geometry.I used a triangle, oval, trapezoid, block arc, hexagon. The colours that I  used was green, yellow, blue, red pink and purple, what is symmetry? symmetry is when it is the same on both sides. This is what my pattern looks like

Have you ever done geometry in school before?

Rad Reading

Kia ora! This week in reading we have been learning about predictions. Predictions in reading have three parts. The first part is looking at the photos and predicting what the story is about, then you read a few line’s and then change your prediction if you want. Last part is to read the story and realise if your predictions were correct or incorrect. For my create I used a template that my teacher created. Here is my create.

Have  you ever done reading predictions? if so what story?

But then the cat was a dog

With a little squeaking mouse

But the rat pat the hot cat mad cat

There was a pin that feel in a bin

He poked someone in the skin and sinned

Then the man got in the rubbish bin

Then shot the pot that was hot

He tired to get the pin off his skin

Silly Science

This week we were doing science and learning about electricity. We had to make the water make a sound. To make the  make a sound you had to use two nails, salt, water, specimen jars and beakers. When I first tried it out  I used 2 copper nails then I used 2 zinc nails and the last time I tried it I used 1 zinc nail and one copper nail and then it worked and made a noise.

To make the water make the sound you use:

  • specimen jars
  • salt
  • water
  • copper nails
  • zinc nails
  • beakers

My hypothesis: That the salt in the water would make the buzzer buzz.

My conclusion: That the buzzer made a sound at the end when we used two different nails and the salt water.

Something I found challenging was to make the water sing.

If  I were to try this experiment again I would try one of each nail first.

Have you ever done a science experiment before?

Money Math

Have you ever done a production at your school before?

Here is my poster

Magic PBL

Over the course of term one we have looked at the question: How can we help build a resilient community? We are using something called The Resilience Project to understand simple tricks to make our lives better.

I have learnt that Gratitude means being thankful for what you have. I’m thankful for God, food, water, family, friends and shelter.  Empathy is when you put yourself in someone else’s shoes and feel how they are feeling. It also can be very hard for some people to do.  Mindfulness is connecting with your surroundings. I can meditate in the morning and think about my breathing and hearing.

The whole school had a showcase evening to look at all the students’ creations and learn more about The Resilience Project. We had to make an invitation for the people that were coming to the school to look at everything we made. You got to put whatever you wanted to put on it. It just had to have a few words on it so they know where it is.

For the showcase evening I worked with Quinn. We decided to create loom bands, and some information booklets about GEM. The loom bands were all the three colours that GEM stands for and a booklet that has more info.

I now know more about GEM and understand what they all mean. Throughout the creating process I feel like I did really well working together with my group the whole time. I could have been better at making our work standout more for others to see.

If I was to do this again, next time I would make less things because not that many people came to our stand.

Question – Have you ever done PBL at school before?
